Four people were killed in two separate banditry incidents in Kerio Valley on Monday, raising tensions in the region after a period of relative calm.

The first attack killed a herder in Dira, Tiaty constituency, Baringo County.

The assailants drove away an unknown number of livestock.

Security agencies have yet to determine the exact number of stolen animals.

A retaliatory attack followed shortly after, leaving three people dead, including two pupils from Kimongo Primary School.

The victims were ambushed and shot on their way home from school near Soko Bora, close to Tot in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The situation remains tense, with residents fearing further violence.

These attacks come a month after three people were killed on Kolowa Bridge as they returned from Kolowa Market to Tot.

Security agencies, including the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), and General Service Unit (GSU), have been dispatched to the area to investigate the incidents and confirm additional information.
