Kenya has qualified for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games in beach handball through rankings, joining the global line up of countries set to compete in Senegal from October 31 to November 13.
The national women’s beach handball team will feature at the multi-sport event which is tailor-made for athletes aged 15 to 18 years old after getting one of the three slots reserved for Africa following last year’s heroics.
Kenya won a silver medal at the 2023 African Beach Games in Hammamet, Tunisia, and another silver medal at the 2025 African Youth Games held in Luanda, Angola.
These back-to-back podium finishes build strong credentials for Kenya in the 2026 Youth Olympics qualification process.
Qualification for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games was based on a set of principles including rankings plus a precondition for teams to participate at the 2025 IHF Men's and Women's Youth (U17) Beach Handball World Championships, which took place in Hammamet, Tunisia in 2025.
Other African representatives in the women’s beach handball include hosts Senegal and Tunisia.
Kenya will face strong opponents including Croatia, Mexico, Spain, China, and Uruguay, while the men’s program continues to grow through grassroots training and continental qualifiers.
Beyond the sand courts, Kenya’s beach handball journey is tied to youth empowerment and climate action.
Initiatives like TideTurners Africa have integrated sport with environmental stewardship, making Kenya’s athletes ambassadors for both performance and sustainability.
“We have been training tirelessly since winning our last silver medal. Every step, every sacrifice was driven by the dream of reaching the Olympic stage. God saw our efforts and rewarded us with this qualification,” said Caroline Nyadiero, Beach Handball Commission Chairperson.
“This is not just a victory for our athletes — it is a beacon of hope for Kenya’s youth. We are ready to inspire, to compete, and to show the world that Kenya belongs at the highest level.”
Kenya’s qualification is a proud national moment — a call to support its athletes as they prepare to showcase skill, creativity, and resilience on the Olympic stage in Dakar.
