Kenyan sides Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Equity
Hawks recorded mixed results on day three of the 2026 Women’s Basketball League
Africa (WBLA) Zone Five Qualifiers in Tanzania, with KPA bouncing back to beat
Burundi’s Dynamo 75-68 while Equity suffered a second consecutive defeat.
KPA, the national Premier League defending champions,
recovered from their opening 95-79 loss to Rwanda’s REG to claim victory over
Dynamo in Group A.
The Dockers started strongly, taking the first
quarter 25-17 before edging the second 16-14 to establish a 41-31 lead at halftime.
KPA maintained their advantage after the break,
narrowly winning the third quarter 17-16 before Dynamo fought back to take the
final quarter 21-17. However, the Kenyan side held on for a seven-point
victory.
The trio of Alima Doumbia, Victoria Reynolds and
Christine Akinyi combined for 50 points to inspire KPA, while Nelly Sandra,
Taylor Hasandove and Nandy Linda contributed 44 points for Dynamo.
KPA will wrap up their Group A campaign against
Tanzania’s Fox Divas today as they seek to build momentum ahead of the knockout
stages.
Meanwhile, Equity Hawks suffered their second defeat
in Group B, going down 71-55 to Burundi’s Les Hippos a day after their 91-56
loss to Rwanda’s APR.
The bankers started brightly, winning the opening
quarter 16-14 before taking the second 17-12 to lead 33-26 at halftime.
However, Les Hippos turned the game around after the
break, dominating the third quarter 20-9 before sealing the victory with a
commanding 25-13 display in the final period.
Lavin Auma and Betty Kananu combined for 30 points
for Equity, but their efforts were not enough to prevent another defeat.
Equity will face hosts Vijana Queens of Tanzania in
their final Group B match today, hoping to end their group-stage campaign on a
positive note.
