Leading the charge was Ali Abad Ouhsummer, who wasted little time in the main event against South Sudan's Peter Bushak. Ouhsummer showcased his grappling prowess, locking in a shotgun armbar submission in the opening round to seal a convincing victory and underline his status as one of Kenya's rising mixed martial arts stars.
Dedicating the win to his unborn child, Ali noted that he came into the fight to better his last outing.
"The performance tonight was not based on a game plan, but I came out to better my last fight, and I think it was a success," Ali said.
The co-main event also belonged to the hosts as George Itumo overpowered Democratic Republic of Congo fighter Ken Boton. Itumo unleashed a relentless attack that forced the referee to stop the contest in the first round, handing the Kenyan a technical knockout victory.
“We adore Kenyan Athletes like Kipchoge and Omanyala, and that is what I want to bring to martial arts; in ten years I want to be the Guy that kids around East Africa look up to and want to emulate," Itumo said following his victory.
The night highlighted the growing strength of Kenyan mixed martial arts, with local fighters demonstrating superior technique, power, and determination against opponents from across the region.
Their success was reflected in the final tally, with Kenyan competitors claiming five wins from the nine professional fights on the card.
The event attracted MMA enthusiasts from across Nairobi and showcased the rapid growth of the sport in East Africa. With standout performances from Ouhsummer and Itumo, Kenyan fighters once again proved they are becoming a force to reckon with on the continental MMA scene.
As ANZA MMA continues to provide a platform for regional talent, the performances witnessed at Pro Fight Night 002 offer further evidence that Kenya's mixed martial arts future is bright.
