Kenyan environmental and natural resources law firm OGO-Law, The Greenbrief Advocates, has won two awards at the 3rd Annual Legal Era Africa Law Awards 2025-26 held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Nairobi-based firm was named Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Law Firm of the Year, while its Managing Partner, Elizabeth Gitari-Mitaru, received the Leading Environment Lawyer of the Year award.

The Legal Era Africa Law Awards, organised by Legal Era – Legal Media Group, recognise outstanding achievements by African law firms, in-house legal teams and legal professionals. Winners are selected by an independent jury comprising members of the legal and business community.

Speaking after receiving the awards, Gitari-Mitaru said the recognition reflected the growing role of environmental and natural resources law practice in East Africa.

"This recognition reflects the growing sophistication and ambition of environmental and natural resources law practice across East Africa. We have always believed that rigorous legal advocacy is one of the most powerful tools available to protect our environment and shape equitable energy and resources policy. To be recognised at a pan-African level affirms that the work being done here in Nairobi is resonating far beyond our borders," she said.

The awards come at a time when environmental, energy and natural resources law is gaining prominence across Africa as governments, investors and communities respond to climate change, energy transition and evolving natural resources governance frameworks.
