Kenya, UK deepen health ties in new five-year deal

The MoU was signed by the Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Ouma Oluga, on behalf of the Government of Kenya, and by Professor Graham Lord, Senior Vice President for Health and Life Sciences at King's College London, alongside representatives of the University of Manchester, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Nottingham, who represented the alliance's UK institutions.

The signing was witnessed by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba on behalf of the participating learning institutions, and by the UK High Commissioner.

The renewed agreement builds on five years of partnership that has strengthened health workforce development, specialist clinical services, cancer care, kidney disease management, research collaboration and academic exchange between the two countries.

Under the new framework, the partnership will widen its focus to digital health and artificial intelligence, local manufacturing of health products and technologies, health security, climate-resilient health systems, technology transfer, trade and investment, while supporting the rollout of Kenya's Universal Health Coverage agenda.

The MoU also aligns all Kenya-UK Health Alliance programmes with Kenya's Health Policy Platform, ensuring collaborative initiatives are folded into national planning, budgeting and monitoring systems to improve coordination, accountability and long-term sustainability.

The renewed alliance reaffirms the commitment of both countries to deepen bilateral cooperation, accelerate innovation and research, mobilise investment and build resilient health systems that improve equitable access to quality healthcare in Kenya and the United Kingdom.
