Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will next Thursday convene a
high-level meeting to chart the roadmap for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations,
which will be jointly hosted by the three East African nations.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya says the meeting, dubbed
the ‘Pamoja’ summit, will bring together ministers to deliberate on key issues
including visa facilitation and tax exemptions ahead of the continental
showpiece.
Speaking at the Talanta Plaza in Nairobi while hosting CAF
Acting Secretary General Samson Adamu, Mvurya reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to
delivering a world-class tournament.
“There are a number of decisions we will be making next week.
We will be having a Pamoja meeting that will bring together Ministers to
discuss matters such as visas, tax exemptions and many others,” said Mvurya.
“CAF will be the key facilitator of the event, and we will
be announcing the roadmap that will guide the three East African countries
towards the AFCON 2027,” he added.
The CS said the government had held a courtesy meeting with
the CAF official to congratulate him on his new role and reaffirm Kenya’s
commitment to hosting AFCON 2027.
“We have a lot of activities ahead to ensure we deliver a
successful tournament,” he added.
Mvurya further presided over the official handover ceremony
of the AFCON 2027 Local Organizing Committee, welcoming chairperson Nicholas
Musonye and incoming CEO Antony Lungaho.
He also lauded the CHAN 2025 organizing team, led by CEO Mike Rabar, for successfully delivering the tournament and elevating Kenya’s profile on the continental and global stage.
