The national women’s 3 on 3 basketball team has qualified for
the FIBA 3*3 World Tour Nations League 2022 after winning the South Zone of the
Africa Nations League on Saturday at Nyayo Gymnasium, Nairobi.
The six day tournament attracted five countries – Kenya,
Uganda, Rwanda, Botswana and Benin with the hosts accruing the most points to
qualify for global showpiece that will be held in September.
Kenya was represented by the quartet of Adala Juma, Jepkemboi
Kogo, Achieng Babra and Okot Madina.
The 3*3 head coach Tony Ochieng could not hide his delight after
Kenya secured qualification.
“I am super proud of the team. We knew Uganda had a strong
finish and we had a plan to stop their penetration and command rebounds.
“We had to plan to counter every basket they scored with a
two point reply and it worked well. Our plans for the World Final Tour and
World Cup are on course,” Ochieng said.
In the men's category, Rwanda qualified courtesy of winning
four stops out of six with Uganda winning two.
Kenya and Rwanda will join two other teams from the Northern
Zone of Africa in the World Tour scheduled to take place in September in
Romania.
Kenya men team failed to win any stop and the team was
represented by Benedict Otieno Dolph, Timothy Oyoo Ayieko, Joseph Koja Aduol
and Jordan Otieno Adera.
