The Kenya Golf Union has officially teed off preparations for this year’s Golf World Cup, set to take place in Somabay, Egypt, this October.

This marks only the second time Africa will host the prestigious tournament, following South Africa's turn in 1996.

The qualification journey, branded The Road to Somabay, will feature a three-event series, beginning today at the Karen Country Club. In each event, the top two finishers will secure a coveted spot in the national finals, scheduled for September 12.

The Karen leg has already drawn a strong field of over 200 players, all eager to secure their ticket to represent Kenya on the global stage.

Among the hopefuls is Jeff Kubwa, who expressed excitement about the competition and the prospect of competing in Egypt.

“We’re thrilled about this opportunity, and everyone here is determined to win. The course is in excellent condition, and we’re all set. It’s going to be a high-level contest,” Kubwa said.

Ultimately, the two players who emerge victorious at the end of the series will earn an all-expenses-paid trip to Egypt to represent Kenya at the Golf World Cup, which will be held from October 12 to 17.
