Kenya Sevens Rugby team qualified for the Singapore Series final after beating Argentina 15 – 12 in the Main Cup semi finals on Sunday.

Augustine Lugonzo gave Kenya a lifeline after finding a gap to give Kenya the first try which was coolly converted by Samuel Oliech to tie the game at 7-7.

Frank Wanyama then levelled things before Collins Injera gambled to go for points with a penalty to take Kenya to the maiden finals of the HSBC Sevens series, for the first time since 2013.

Benjamin Ayimba’s side resorted to an all defence tactic keeping off Argentina’s attack with a series of superb exchanges before Lugonzo stormed through the Argentine defence, muscling his way to the whitewash.

Argentina then made a breakthrough from the right wing to go 5 points in what seemed as a disappointment for the East African outfits.

But it was a Frank Wanyama’s dash from the right flank that restored Kenya’s hopes of a maiden final touch-down to level matters before Injera’s brilliance to go for points knocked out Santiago Gomez Gora’s men.

Kenya will now face Fiji in the final of the Main Cup.
