The National Police Service (NPS) is set to phase out the current general duty police uniforms after concluding a public participation exercise which will begin today.

NPS team will be visiting eight regions in the country to involve officers and the public in the review of the uniform design.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, Peter Ndungu director in charge of logistics said the move is in line with President William Ruto pre-election pledge to introduce a modest police uniform.

“We are only concerned with the design, not about texture or standards. Officers have voted through acclamation on what they want,” Ndungu said, showing samples of proposed uniform designs.

Former president Uhuru Kenyatta unveiled the current uniforms in 2018.

Ndugu said the current uniforms were not subjected to public participation while being introduced to the officers.

Now, NPS has called on the public to give opinions on the best uniform designs. A team will visit 8 regions in the country to engage the public, and thereafter present a report to the Committee tasked to conceptualise the plan.

The participation will take place at Kenya Police Pavilion in South C on August 29, Ruring'u Police Training College on August 30 and Kiganjo National Police College on August 31.
