30 years since the Beijing Declaration in 1995, which sought to advance women's rights and equality on a global scale, Kenya is making significant progress in women's economic empowerment and gender equality.

With the Beijing +30 Action agenda rolled out on the 30th anniversary of the 1995 declaration, the digital revolution is playing a role in the pursuit of women's empowerment and championing of gender equality.

The Kenyan Embassy in China partnered with the United Nations Women to convene a post Beijing +30 High Level Dialogue on June this year, to deliberate a shift into actions from the declaration, as part of the 30 year milestone since Beijing hosted the declaration in 1995.

A young woman in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and a graduate engineer, Amb. Lynette Mwende Ndile has been consistently championing a program for youths to be quipped with essential skills in line with the CSW political declarations known as #VijanaNaSkills

In her keynote address, she spoke on the need to track progress of the tangible outcomes and she represented The Head of Mission Ambassador Willy Bett, to affirm Kenya’s commitment in working with China to further the development cooperation.

The high-impact engagement reaffirmed Kenya’s shared commitment to inclusive development and gender equality

Kenya’s PS in the Ministry of Gender, Anne Wang’ombe led a delegation to China consisting of Harriette Chiggai who is the Kenyan President’s Advisor on Women Rights and Roy Sasaka, CEO of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) and other delegates where the discussion centered on women’s economic empowerment, digital inclusion and how important to build partnerships that truly serve communities.

In his address during the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres talked of women's human rights and recommended solutions to making women's empowerment and gender equality a reality and not just a conversation.

“Globally, women’s human rights are under attack,” U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a statement. “Instead of mainstreaming equal rights, we’re seeing the mainstreaming of misogyny.”

He said the world must stand firm “in making human rights, equality and empowerment a reality for all women and girls, for everyone, everywhere.”
