The 2023/2024 Kenya cup season kicked off over the weekend with top sides in the league registering big wins.

Defending champions Kabras Sugar were the highest scorers as they thrashed newcomers Kisumu RFC 72-10 at Kakamega Showground.

Menengai Oilers recorded a crucial win, hammering Homeboyz 43-10 with Captain Ibrahim Ayodi commending the overall play of the boys.

“The first game was good. All we needed was a win and everything we worked on went on well, our scrums, line outs everything worked but we don’t venture on points a lot; what will help us going is our system and I’m very proud of the boys to lead them in this first game and I’m looking to leading them more because it’s an easy process; we are ready for the season, we’ve just started,” he said.

Their neighbors Nakuru RFC didn’t have a successful hunt as they narrowly fell to Strathmore Leos losing 24-27.

The 2023 Floodlit champions KCB also started the Kenya Cup season with a win as they demolished Nondescripts 45-8.

Kenya Harlequins were the other big winners of the weekend as they hammered Catholic Monks 48-8, Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad shocking Mwamba RFC 24-16.

Owing to their heavy win, Kabras Sugar who are hunting for their fourth Kenya Cup title lead the standing on five points.
