Fourteen African countries will compete for glory in this year's men's handball championship, the African Cup of Nations finals set to be staged in Egypt from July 9-19.

The 25th edition will bring together countries such as defending champions and event organizers Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Angola, and Cameroon.

Others are the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal and Zambia. Japan will participate as a guest team.

The draw for the event will take place Thursday 26th May in the town of Giza.

Top Egyptian retired stars in the game together with counterparts from Nigeria, Morocco and Japan will take part during the draw ceremony with an aim of promoting this year's event across Africa and beyond.

Kenya has made three appearances in the African championship, the first one in 2004. The highest rank the Kenyan team has attained is position nine in 2016. However, this performance has nosedived in the recent past finishing at number 12 and 15 in the subsequent years.

Kenya Handball Federation fixture secretary Charles Omondi says they are reaching out to sponsors to help manage the top league and improve competition in the men and women categories.
