Kenya Airways announces 6-hour flight delays after aviation workers' strike

In a communique on Monday, Kenya Airways said that some flights have subsequently been rescheduled due to flight backlog.

All passengers flying with the carrier have been advised to only go to the airport when they have confirmed flights and their flight status.

They have also been encouraged to update their contact information to receive updated notifications.

Likewise, those who would like to reschedule their flights have been advised to do so, noting there will be no penalties.

The national carrier has, however, maintained that its teams are working to solve the backlog to reduce the disruption's impact.

The industrial action started on Sunday as aviation workers, under the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU), declared go-slows across Kenyan airports. 

The workers are demanding improved welfare, better working conditions and the implementation of previously agreed employment benefits.

The industrial action has disrupted flight operations, with several airlines delaying or rescheduling flights.

As from Sunday evening, passengers were left stranded at airports across the country.
