KeNHA lists roads to be closed for Nairobi City Marathon tomorrow

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of five Nairobi highways to facilitate the third edition of the Nairobi City Marathon.

In a notice, KeNHA stated that the Southern Bypass, Nairobi Expressway, Waiyaki Way, Mombasa Road and Lang'ata Road will be closed from Saturday, September 7, at midnight to Sunday, September 8, at 2pm. 

"Motorists are advised to follow the traffic signs and guidance as directed by the police and traffic marshals," the notice read in part. 

Alternative Routes

Nairobi Expressway

The elevated road will be closed from Saturday at 10:00 pm to Sunday at 3pm. The affected route will be between James Gichuru Road and JKIA both sides. There were no alternative routes provided for the closure of Nairobi Expressway.

Waiyaki Way

The road will be closed between James Gichuru and entrance of the Expressway. The alternative routes include James Gichuru Road, Muthangari Road, Lang'ata Road and Ring Road.

Crossing Thika Superhighway Exit A2 to Uhuru Highway, Mombasa Road direction

The road will be closed from Saturday midnight to Sunday 1pm. The alternative routes offered include Juja Road, Kenyatta Avenue, Outer Ring Road, the City Centre Routes, Nairobi Ring Road Network.

Harry Thuku Road

It will be closed between Saturday midnight to Sunday 2pm. Alternative routes provided are Moi Avenue, Kenyatta Avenue, Uhuru Highway, Lang'ata Road, Moi Avenue and Muthangari Road.

University Way

The road will be closed between Highway Roundabout and Harry Thuku from Saturday midnight to Sunday 2pm. Alternative routes include Kenyatta Avenue, Moi Avenue, Uhuru Highway, Murang'a Road, Ring Road Network and Muthangari Road. 

Koinange Street

Alternative routes include Kenyatta Avenue, Moi Avenue, Uhuru Highway, Haile Selassie Avenue, Murang'a Road and the Ring Road Network. 

Crossing Mombasa Road and Southern Bypass Likoni Road 

The road will be closed between Saturday midnight to Sunday 11am. Alternative routes include Nairobi Ring Road Network (Ring Road Westlands, Ring Road Ngara), Uhuru Highway and JKIA Access Roads (Airport North Road). 

For Uhuru Highway, Lang'ata Road, Wakihuri Road and Bunyala Road, alternative routes include Moi Avenue, Kenyatta Avenue, Juja Road, Mombasa Road, Ngong Road, Outer Ring Road, Airport Roads, Airport North Road and Nairobi Ring Road Network (Ring Road Westlands, Ring Road Ngara and Ring Road Eastlands).
