The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has warned Kenyans of a fertilizer brand which does not meet the regulator's quality standards.

KEBS through a public notice urged Kenyans to beware of substandard fertilizer trading by the name ‘GPC Original Plus Organic Fertilizer.’

“Beware of Substandard Fertilizer: The product trading by the name: “GPC Original Plus Organic Fertilizer” manufactured by SBL Innovate Manufacturers Limited, does NOT meet the requirements of the Kenyan Standards for Organic Fertilizer KS 2290:2018,” the agency warned.

KEBS said the government-approved subsidized fertilizer meets all safety and quality standards and clarified that the GPC Original Plus Organic Fertilizer is not part of the fertiliser subsidy programme.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi previously said that this year, his ministry aims to double the number of subsidized fertiliser bags from the previous 6 million distributed in 2023.
