Former Champions KCB stormed into the semifinals of the 2026 CAVB African Women’s Club Championship in Cairo, Egypt, after a resounding straight-sets victory over Mayo Kano Evolution of Cameroon in the quarterfinals on Monday afternoon.
The bankers produced another flawless display to seal a 3-0 win with set scores of 25-15, 25-18, and 25-21, extending their remarkable unbeaten run in the tournament without dropping a single set.
KCB will now face local rivals Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) in an all-Kenyan semifinal clash set for Tuesday afternoon after Pipeline defeated DCI 3-1 in their own quarterfinal encounter.
Speaking after the team’s victory, Head Coach Japheth Munala hailed the team's tactical discipline.
“We have remained focused from the first match and the players continue to show great composure and tactical discipline. We are taking one match at a time, but reaching the semifinal without losing a set shows the character and quality of this team. Now the focus shifts to Kenya Pipeline, which will be another big battle,” Munala noted.
KCB’s road to the last four has been nothing short of dominant. The bankers topped Pool D after straight-set wins over Nigeria’s Vipers and Partners, Seychelles’ ARSU Ladies, and Cameroon’s Litto Team Volleyball, finishing the preliminary stage with maximum points.
In the Round of 16, they dispatched Burundi’s GLC in another emphatic 3-0 victory before brushing aside Mayo Kano Evolution in the quarters to stay perfect in Cairo.
“We are happy with how the team has performed so far because everyone has stepped up when needed. We respect Kenya Pipeline because we know each other very well, but we are ready for the challenge. Our target remains the final and ultimately the title,” said captain Mercy Moim.
The semifinal against Kenya Pipeline now presents a familiar domestic rivalry on the continental stage, with both Kenyan sides eyeing a place in the final of Africa’s premier club volleyball competition.
