KCB retain Kabeberi crown after narrow victory over Leos

KCB started brightly, with a well-executed move seeing Centre Richel Wangila carry the ball with a well-executed run before finding Shujaa captain George Ooro from a ruck, who crossed the whitewash for the opening try. Captain Brian Waihinya added the conversion to give KCB an early 7-0 lead.

The defending champions continued to press, and Mike Wekesa soon broke through the Leos defence to score another try, extending KCB's advantage to 14-0.

Leos, who finished fourth in last year's edition, responded through captain Gabriel Ayimba. Ayimba showcased his trademark running ability down the right flank before crossing the line for a converted try, cutting the deficit to 14-7.

KCB's defensive struggles then began to emerge as Victor Mola found Ayimba unmarked, allowing the Leos captain to score his second try of the final. The conversion brought Leos within two points at 14-12 at halftime.

The second half produced a more measured contest, with both sides protecting their positions while waiting for opportunities to attack. KCB held their nerve to maintain their narrow advantage and complete their successful title defence.

The victory also gives KCB valuable momentum heading into the Driftwood 7s, where they currently lead the overall standings.

In the women's category, Mwamba continued their impressive run of dominance, overcoming Harlequins 12-7 to claim the title.

Meanwhile, Nys Spades secured promotion to Division One for the Driftwood 7s after defeating tough rivals Kabete Stallions 14-0 in the Division Two final.

KCB's latest triumph further cements their status as the dominant force in the Kabeberi 7s.
