Thunder won their fifth match of the season by thrashing Kisumu Lakeside 63-46 during Sunday’s Kenya National Basketball men's premier league clash at Nyayo Gymnasium in Nairobi.

Thunder led the opening quarter 17-10 and went on to establish a 34-22 lead at the break, winning the third quarter 17-16 before closing out the day with a 12-08 success in the final quarter to seal their victory.

Thunder's point guard Griffins Ligare was at the heart of everything, pulling the strings and scoring a game-high 19 points as Dismas Mbaka added another 15.

Brandon Lee, Moses Musebe and Kennedy Okumu were Lakeside's shining stars dropping 24 points combined.

Thunder's head coach Sadat Gaya attributed the win for defensive display.

"Today we were able to play well compared to yesterday's match against KPA. We executed well, did great defensively and rebounding," Gaya said

His sentiments were echoed by team captain Griffins Ligare.

"I am glad we won, we did played well. We were able to execute well and defended effectively," Ligare said.

Thunder had lost 51-69 to KPA on Saturday at the same venue.

In another match played at the same venue defending champions Kenya Ports Authority hammered Equity Dumas 79-60 to cement their top position on the log.
