Kenya's rallying star
Karan Patel says he’s fully focused on winning the two remaining legs of the
African Rally Championship as he chases down Uganda’s Yassin Nasser for the
2023 championship.
Fresh from claiming
maximum points in Rwanda, Karan says he and his co-driver Tauseef Khan will be
pushing harder to win the remaining Zambia and Tanzania legs to claim the ARC
gong.
"The strategy is
just push as usual; that's what we do best. The target is always to win; any
race we go to our aim is to win, we don't want to finish second. So whichever
race we go to is to do our best and fortunately our best for us now allows us
to come out on top so we will see how long that lasts; hopefully it does as
long as we expect. We have two more rounds to go and we are looking forward to
winning them both."
Karan has been quite
dominant in the local and continental stage in recent years despite losing the
ARC title last season to Zambia’s Leroy Gomes in the final hurdle and he hopes
one day he will get the coveted opportunity of squaring it out with the big
boys in the World Rally Championship.
"We would want
to compete (at the WRC) but not on our own expense; we don't want to do that.
But should we have the opportunity to drive in the WRC we would definitely take
it but the chances are slim. However as long as we continue to dominate locally
and continue to prove to be the best team in the continent we are more than
happy to continue to do that."
The championship next head to Zambia on the weekend of October 20-22 with the last leg being
hosted in Tanzania in November.
