Kang’ata ranked best performing Governor in latest Infotrak survey

The survey, which examined the impact of devolution over the years, assessed how counties have performed across different sectors.

Kang'ata scored 80 per cent, followed by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya at 76 per cent and Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi at 71 per cent.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Makueni's Mutula Kilonzo Jr tied at 66 per cent, while Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wesley Rotich, Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o and West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin each scored 65 per cent.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Samburu Governor Jonathan Lelelit completed the top 10, each scoring 63 per cent.

Murang'a County also ranked highly across several sectors, including education, agriculture, infrastructure, housing, trade, tourism and energy.

In bringing services closer to residents, Murang'a tied with Trans Nzoia at 50 per cent, while Kiambu led at 51 per cent.

Murang'a also ranked first in the use of technology to deliver services, scoring 51 per cent. Kiambu followed at 49 per cent, while Kisii, Kisumu and Trans Nzoia each scored 48 per cent.

The county also topped the ranking on the management of public funds, scoring 47 per cent. Kisii followed at 44 per cent, Kiambu at 43 per cent, Trans Nzoia at 42 per cent, while Elgeyo Marakwet and Homa Bay each scored 41 per cent.

Nairobi was notably absent from the top 25 counties, while Governor Johnson Sakaja did not feature among the top-ranked Governors.

The survey found that the most important factors Kenyans consider when rating elected leaders are delivery on campaign promises at 41.5 per cent, transparency and accountability at 35.1 per cent, initiation of development projects at 29.8 per cent and the use of county funds at 28.4 per cent.

Infotrak said the survey sampled 36,200 respondents across all 47 counties.

Kang'ata, who recently left the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), is seeking to defend his Murang'a seat on the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ticket.
