Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan ditches Jubilee to join DCP party

The legislator was welcomed to the party on Tuesday by its leader, Rigathi Gachagua, at their headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi.

MP Hassan, who won his elective post under a Jubilee ticket in the 2022 General Election, said that he has opted to join a forward-thinking political ship that upholds integrity and astute leadership.

"Kenyans are hurting because of the high cost of living, and corruption has increased. Kamkunji residents have said they are tired and cannot bear the burden of bad politics," he said. 

"Gachagua is a nationalist who loves Kenya. And that is what makes a nation better. The journey has started until we win during the elections and create a new government."

He was supported by other new DCP MPs, among them Embakasi West MP Mark Muriithi Mwenje, who said Nairobi has suffered under ill leadership and DCP holds the blueprint to transform the nation. 

"It has gotten to a point where we are tired of all this circus. Gachagua is the one to unite us all. We are now in a new beginning with a party that will take us forward," he noted.

"We are young and we have the energy to campaign for this party in Nairobi. We know this Nairobi and we will."

Other Nairobi region MPs who backed Yusuf's welcoming include Kamande Mwafrika (Roysambu) and Benjamin Gathiru (Embakasi Central), who both won their posts in 2022 under a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
