United Opposition leaders have dismissed the latest fuel price reduction as an insult to Kenyans, while vowing to prosecute President William Ruto and other Kenya Kwanza leaders accused of plundering public resources should they form the next government in 2027.

DAP–Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa led the onslaught, ridiculing the Kenya Kwanza administration for slashing the price of petrol by only 22 cents and diesel by Ksh.10 per litre, a move he said exposed the government's indifference to the high cost of living.

Speaking to worshippers at Kibabii Catholic Church, Wamalwa wondered why the government had increased fuel prices by over Ksh.40 in the past, only to reduce them by mere cents.

"It is an insult to Kenyans to reduce the price of fuel by 22 cents on petrol and Ksh.10 on diesel," he said.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka echoed the sentiments, saying the United Opposition had proposed a more significant cut that would have brought relief to Kenyans struggling under the weight of high commodity prices.

"Today they have reduced the price of fuel by Ksh.10. We, as the United Alternative Government, had proposed that the price of fuel be reduced to Ksh.170. What they have done will only push the cost of living higher," Kalonzo said.

The Wiper leader urged those in power to be prepared to hand over the reins in next year's election, saying Kenyans were yearning for leaders with a clear plan to improve their lives.

"We want those in power to be ready to hand over leadership next year to those who have a plan to better the lives of Kenyans," he said.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya turned up the heat further, warning that an opposition government would move swiftly to recover stolen public funds.

"When the alternative government takes power next year, President William Ruto will be given 60 days to return all the resources he has stolen from Kenyans, failure to do so will result in him being jailed," Natembeya said.

He added that other leaders accused of stashing stolen wealth abroad, including in Uganda, would be given a 30-day ultimatum to return the resources or face prosecution.

"All other leaders who have stolen resources and hidden them in other countries, including Uganda, will be given 30 days to return them, failing which they will be jailed," he warned.

Natembeya also issued a challenge to the United Opposition principals, calling on them to settle on a presidential flagbearer with the courage to take on the Kenya Kwanza administration.

"To the United principals, we need amongst you a president that is bold enough to deal with and prosecute all those leaders in Kenya Kwanza who have messed up this country," he said
