Kalonzo rules out pre-election talks with Ruto, dismisses coalition claims

Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka has ruled out any pre-election talks with President William Ruto, insisting he will only engage the Head of State after the conclusion of the 2027 General Election.

He maintained that the opposition remains focused on unseating the Kenya Kwanza administration.

"Ruto anataka Wakenya wazungumze na anatuma watu kusema na zungumza na yeye... watu wakawa na huzuni sana... mazungumzo na Ruto ni baada ya uchaguzi. Mazungumzo ya saa hii ni one term na two terms. Inawezekana kuweka rais one term, Malawi ilifanya," he said.

The Wiper leader also criticised President Ruto's push for a post-Vision 2030 development charter, arguing that the government should first deliver on its existing promises to Kenyans.

"Wameshindwa kutimiza ahadi... hata Singapore hatujafika... eti Oburu anasema tunaenda Canaan lakini tunapitia Singapore kwanza... huwezi enda Singapore na watu hawana kazi," Kalonzo stated.

Kalonzo further accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of presiding over corruption and economic mismanagement.

He said, "Anasema eti miaka 42 nimekuwa uongozini sijafanya kitu... eeeh niko na miaka 42 lakini sijaiba bibi ya mtu... sijaibia mtu."

The Wiper leader also cautioned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) against any attempt to alter the live streaming of election results through proposed legislative amendments.

Meanwhile, leaders from the Ukambani region rallied behind Kalonzo's presidential bid, dismissing claims that he could strike a political deal with President Ruto before the election.

Kathiani MP Robert Mbui said Kalonzo remained firmly focused on his presidential ambition.

"Kalonzo kuungana na Ruto ni ndoto kubwa... yeye anaenda kuwa rais," Mbui noted.

Embakasi South MP Musili Mawathe also dismissed reports of a possible political pact.

In Trans Nzoia County, DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa described reports of a possible Ruto-Kalonzo alliance as propaganda intended to divide the opposition.

Speaking during the funeral of Mama Salano Mukatia in Saboti, Wamalwa urged opposition leaders to remain united ahead of the 2027 General Election.

"Hiyo ni porojo ya rais ili kugawanya umoja wa upinzani," said Wamalwa.
