Kalonzo being misled, Ruku claims as he rallies Ukambani to work with government

Speaking in Mbooni Constituency, Makueni County, and later in Katangi, Machakos County, Ruku singled out Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, questioning his long-standing role in government and his current political stance.

Ruku noted that Kalonzo has served in senior government positions for close to four decades, including as Vice President, yet is now urging his Ukambani backyard to remain outside government.

“It is contradictory for a leader who has benefited from government for years to now tell his people to stay in the opposition. He is paid by the government, drives vehicles fueled by the same government, and is protected by security funded by taxpayers,” Ruku said.

The CS further observed that Kalonzo is being misled by opposition figures, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, for personal political interests at the expense of the region’s development.

He urged the Wiper leader to reconsider his position, saying aligning Ukambani with the government would accelerate development and improve livelihoods.

Ruku emphasized that the administration led by President William Ruto has already demonstrated commitment to the region through increased investment in infrastructure and social programmes, despite receiving minimal electoral support from the area.

“This government is working for all Kenyans regardless of how they voted. Ukambani is already benefiting from key development projects, and more can be achieved if leaders focus on partnership rather than political isolation,” he said.

The CS called on residents to reject what he termed as “politics of convenience,” and instead support leadership that prioritizes tangible development outcomes over partisan interests.

During the visit, the CS reaffirmed the government’s commitment to food security as he oversaw the distribution of relief supplies. He also criticized leaders opposing the exercise, terming their stance misguided, and noted that even in developed countries such as the United States, governments step in to support vulnerable populations.
