Kakamega High School rugby head coach Amos Wamanga says the team has shifted its focus to the sevens competition after finishing fourth in the national 15s tournament.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Wamanga said the team gave its best in the competition and noted that he was impressed by the players’ commitment. He added that he believes the squad has what it takes to win the national sevens title.

“I was impressed by what the boys did. It was a tough competition, with teams coming well prepared for the games, and the level of competition was high. Finishing fourth was a good lesson, and we now shift our focus to the sevens competition,” said Wamanga.

Kakamega replaced Bungoma High School in the competition, and the head coach explained that the late call-up meant they could to assemble a fully fit team.

“We had taken a break after the regionals, and after we were informed about Bungoma’s suspension, we had to assemble the team quickly for the competition. This meant we were not fully fit for the games, and that played a huge part in our results,” added Wamanga.

At the same time, with the national sevens team in action at the Hong Kong Sevens this weekend, the veteran tactician has backed them to put in a strong performance.

“That team is very strong and has been together for a long time. Despite being in a tough pool, I am sure they will deliver a strong result,” stated the head coach.
