Kakamega: Family seeks justice as son killed in alleged case of mistaken identity

A family in Butere, Kakamega County is seeking justice for their kin who was shot dead by police in an alleged case of mistaken identity.

Albert Atulo said his son Daniel was shot dead while his friend, Boaz Katiech was left injured following the incident saw police open fire on the two men at Khwisero.

21-year-old Daniel, who hails from Eshinyulu village in Eshikunga in Butere Constituency, was the last born in their family.

“They left Butere for Khwisero before midnight. Their girlfriends worked at a local bar in Khwisero. The two decided to wait for the two girls to wrap up their shift.

They were then accosted by police officers, with one of them killed on the spot. Katiech, who survived the incident, is nursing gunshot injuries.

Officers from Khwisero police station are said to have shot at the two men thinking they were gangsters reported to have been terrorizing locals.

Area police boss James Momanyi said that a multi-agency probe is ongoing.
