A 62-year-old man has been arrested in Kajiado County after detectives found him with four children in a bedsitter in Isinya, prompting investigations into suspected child trafficking and defilement.

The suspect, Enock Peterson Mwangi, alias Mwamburi Mwandeme, was apprehended at Korompoi Trading Centre following an intelligence-led operation, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The children, aged 17, 16, five and one year and four months, were found in the suspect’s company, leading detectives to investigate how they came to be under his custody.

“The discovery immediately triggered deeper investigations into the circumstances under which the children came to be in his custody,” the DCI said.

Detectives later searched a house associated with the suspect in Mashuuru Township, where they recovered an assortment of items, including bags filled with children’s clothing for both boys and girls.

The clothing ranged from newborn to teenage sizes. Officers also found baby shawls, blankets, a baby carrier and baby shoes of different sizes.

Other items recovered included six mattresses, empty diaper carrier bags, duvets, pillows and assorted foodstuffs.

The four children have been placed under appropriate care and protection and are expected to undergo medical examinations as investigators gather evidence.

Investigations are ongoing, with detectives seeking to establish the facts of the case and determine the appropriate legal action.
