Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has officially unveiled the Forum for Economic Development Agenda (FEDA), a new national political party launched simultaneously across Kajiado, Narok and Marsabit counties.

Speaking during the launch at Ufungamano House, Nairobi, Ole Lenku said the party would champion equity and justice while advancing the interests of communities that have historically been marginalised.

He described FEDA as a national political outfit whose agenda would extend across the country, from Lake Turkana in the north to Taita Taveta in the south.

“Today, here at Ufungamano, we are starting a new journey by unveiling a political party that we very strongly believe stands for the ideals of the heroines and heroes who fought for this country and who have continuously worked for a better Kenya,” Ole Lenku said.

“This is a national party because this party will advocate for equity and justice from Lake Turkana to the north to Taita Taveta to the south,” he added.

Kajiado South MP Parashina Samuel Sakimba defended the governor's decision to establish the party, arguing that every Kenyan has a democratic right to form a political outfit and advance its ideals.

Sakimba dismissed criticism over the decision to launch the party in Kajiado, saying its geographical origins would not limit its national reach or influence.

The launch comes as political leaders begin weighing their options ahead of the 2027 General Election, with parties and potential candidates positioning themselves for the next electoral contest.

Some politicians are expected to abandon their current political parties and join new formations, while others may establish their own outfits to strengthen their bargaining power in coalition negotiations and the distribution of political positions.

Others are likely to remain in their existing parties as political alignments continue to take shape.

FEDA's launch adds another political outfit to the country's evolving political landscape as leaders seek to build regional and national support ahead of the polls.

Meanwhile, political parties are also facing regulatory deadlines as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace.

Party membership lists are scheduled for submission and certification in March 2027, ahead of party nominations later that year.
