KCB took the lead in the final minute of the first half when Festus Shiasi crossed the line for a try, giving the defending champions a 5-0 lead at the break.
However, Kabras came out firing in the second half, scoring three quick tries to turn the match around and secure the 15-5 victory.
KCB had reached the final after edging Menengai Oilers 10-5 in a tense semi-final that went into sudden death, while Kabras cruised past Daystar Falcons 19-0 in the other semi-final.
Speaking after the match, Kabras Sugar assistant coach Ntabeni Outusa described the victory as a relief, saying the team had been under pressure following their disappointing outing at the Kabeberi 7s.
“We had a lot of pressure coming to the Driftwood after what happened at Kabeberi 7s, and we had to give it all to win the tournament. I’m happy with how the boys responded.”
KCB head coach Andrew Omonde congratulated Kabras on their victory, admitting the result was a wake-up call for his side.
“First, I congratulate Kabras for winning the Driftwood tournament. It’s a wake-up call for us, and we will go back to the drawing board and come back strong.”
Daystar Falcons finished third after beating Menengai Oilers 21-5 in the third-place playoff.
Uganda Emerging 7s, who were the tournament’s invited visitors, finished fifth after staging a comeback to defeat Nondescripts 19-14.
In the Division Two final, Zetech Oaks ran riot against Stallions Rugby, securing a convincing 33-7 victory to lift the title.
Tournament sponsors SportPesa, through Mercy Kagui, congratulated all the participating teams for a successful Driftwood 7s tournament.
“It has been amazing. Congratulations to all the winning teams. We are now gearing up for the next circuit stage, which will be Embu 7s on the 26th. This year, we managed to double our sponsorship from 16 million to 32 million.”
