Kabati Youth took a huge leap towards the National Super League (NSL) survival after thumping Luanda Villa 5-0 in match week 35 at St. Sebastian Park in Murang’a on Thursday.
The win left the NSL debutants in 17th with 32 points in the standings, level with Darajani Gogo who occupy the final safety spot but with a superior goal difference with three matches left for play.
Dennis Ndungu plundered in a hat-trick while Abdi Mbogo and Stanley Maina scored one each to complete the rout as the Bees made huge strides in their bid to remain in the second-tier league following their promotion last season.
Elsewhere, MOFA lost further ground in the promotion-chasing race after they were held to a one-all draw by Darajani Gogo at GEMS Cambridge International School in Nairobi.
MOFA, who started the league strongly, have picked up one win in their last five matches as their momentum to climb to the promotion places fizzle out as the league run-in intensifies.
The Nairobi-based side are fifth on 61 points, nine adrift of 3KFC, who occupy the final spot of KPL promotion.
In other matches played across the country on Thursday, Soy United held Kisumu All Stars to a barren draw while Naivas continued with their purple patch to thrash Mwatate United 2-0 at Wundanyi Stadium in Taita Taveta.
On Wednesday, Migori Youth moved closer to returning to the top-flight league following a 2-1 win over relegation-threatened MCF at Awendo Green Stadium.
Migori Youth top the NSL table charts on 74 points, two above second-placed Mombasa United who dropped points following a goalless draw with another promotion-chasing side 3KFC at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa.
