Kenya’s 32 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Nairobi, Mombasa, Turkana

The Ministry of Health on Tuesday announced that 32 people contracted COVID-19 from a sample size of 5,480 tested in the last 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 0.6%.

From the cases, 25 are Kenyans while 7 are foreigners; 21 are males and 11 are females, while the youngest is a three-year-old child and the oldest is 62 years.

Total confirmed positive cases are now 322,978 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 3,376,678.

The cases were recorded across only three counties, with Nairobi reporting the highest number at 27 infections, followed by Mombasa with 3 and Turkana 2 cases.

The ministry also said 39 patients are admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 496 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program and 3 others are on ventilatory support at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

"Another 14 patients are on supplemental oxygen and all of them are in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU)," Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement.

Meanwhile, 13 patients have recovered from the disease; 10 were discharged from various health facilities countrywide while 3 are from the Home-Based and Isolation Care. This pushes the total recoveries to 303,274.

CS Kagwe further noted that no deaths were reported, keeping the cumulative fatalities at 5,639.

On the vaccination exercise, CS Kagwe announced that 16,691,191 vaccines had been administered across the country as of February 28, 2022.

Of these, he said, 7,838,509 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 7,611,589. Another 986,758 are doses administered to those between 15 to 17 years while 254,335 are booster doses.

“The total number of vaccines administered in the last 24 hours is 53,053 while the total number of people fully vaccinated in the last 24 hours is 32,094. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 63.7%,” stated the CS.

“Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 27.9%. The government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.”
