Led by Dr Joseph Gichui and lawyer Maina Kamunya, the leaders told journalists in Juja that senior government officials have been persistently attacking the former Head of State instead of addressing the country’s economic and social challenges.
They defended Uhuru’s legacy, saying his administration left behind stable systems in education and healthcare and undertook major infrastructure projects despite the economic strain caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Jubilee leaders claimed the current administration has been marked by rising taxation, corruption, economic hardship and increased allegations of police brutality during public demonstrations.
Their remarks come amid political debate sparked by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, who linked the Kenyatta family and the Kikuyu community to what he described as historical dominance of the country’s economy and political power — comments that drew criticism from some leaders in the Mt Kenya region.
The Juja leaders said the renewed criticism of Uhuru is politically motivated and meant to shift focus from unfulfilled promises by the Kenya Kwanza administration.
They added that although Uhuru retired from active politics after leaving office, he still has a constitutional right to comment on national matters.
The leaders challenged the government to prioritise service delivery and economic recovery, warning that public frustration is rising due to the cost of living and delayed projects.
