Diageo has appointed John Musunga as Managing Director for Africa, effective July 1, 2026.

Musunga succeeds to the role after more than 25 years in leadership positions across Africa, Europe and Asia. He most recently served as Managing Director for Diageo's South, West and Central Africa business, overseeing operations in more than 30 markets.

Before that, he was Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Guinness Nigeria, where he led a business turnaround and growth strategy. He also previously served as Managing Director of Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) after joining Diageo in 2021, helping steer the company through its post-pandemic recovery.

His appointment will see him relocate from London to Nairobi, where he will be based. The move further strengthens Nairobi's role as a regional headquarters for multinational companies operating across Africa.

Prior to joining Diageo, Musunga held senior leadership roles at GSK, working across Africa, Europe and Asia on commercial operations and public health partnerships.

In his new position, Musunga will oversee Diageo's Africa business, with responsibility for driving growth, expanding innovation, and strengthening the company's presence across its markets on the continent.

The appointment comes as Diageo continues to prioritise Africa as one of its key growth regions, with increasing investment in local manufacturing, distribution networks and premium beverage brands.
