Regional low-cost carrier Jambojet on Friday officially resumed daily flights between Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi and Entebbe International Airport in Uganda, with its first flight departing JKIA.
The revived route introduces daily flights with fares starting from Ksh 22,950
/ USD 170 one-way, providing an affordable, 65-minute connection for business
people, traders and tourists.
The airline first launched the Nairobi - Entebbe route in
2018 and operated the service for nearly two years. The return comes with a
stronger network, expanded fleet and greater operational capacity, positioning
Jambojet to serve the growing movement of people and businesses between Kenya
and Uganda.
Speaking at the flag-off event, Jambojet CEO and Managing
Director, Mr. Karanja Ndegwa, said the airline’s return to Entebbe reflects the
growing need for accessible and reliable regional connectivity.
“We are returning to Entebbe with the experience we gained
from our first chapter on the route, a densified network and a clear ambition
to make regional travel more accessible and reliable. We are therefore bringing
our low-cost proposition together with direct, reliable and on-time
connectivity.”
The route will operate daily initially, with Jambojet
planning to increase frequencies as demand develops.
The service will also connect travellers from Uganda into
Jambojet’s wider Kenyan network, including destinations such as Mombasa, Diani,
Malindi and Lamu, while providing Kenyan travellers with direct access to
Uganda for business, tourism and visiting family and friends.
Kenya Tourism Board CEO, June Chepkemei, welcomed the return
of the service, noting the important role of air connectivity in supporting
tourism growth and making Kenya’s destinations more accessible to regional
travellers.
“This Entebbe–Nairobi service will make it easier for visitors to combine experiences across our two countries. A traveller can enjoy Uganda’s wildlife, culture and natural beauty, then connect conveniently to Kenya’s savannahs, mountains, cities and coast," she said.
"Visitors arriving in Kenya will
likewise have a more accessible gateway to Uganda and the wider Great Lakes
region. Jambojet’s daily service will give travellers greater choice and
flexibility, enhance convenience and capacity, and create an opportunity to
grow this market further.”
Jambojet Board Director, Mrs. Patricia Ithau, said the
return to Uganda reflects the airline’s broader evolution and its ambition to
play a greater role in connecting East Africa.
“When Jambojet started operations, our role was
fundamentally about making air travel more accessible within Kenya. Today,
having carried more than 10 million passengers and built a strong domestic
network, our ambition is expanding. We want to connect more people, more
markets, and more opportunities across East Africa.”
“Regional growth is not simply about adding routes. It is
about building a network that responds to genuine demand and creates a
sustainable value for the markets we serve. The return to Entebbe is one step
in that journey,” she added.
The Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace
Development, Ms. Teresia Mbaika, said the expansion of air connectivity
supports Kenya’s broader ambition to strengthen its position as a regional
aviation hub.
“Today, we are not simply celebrating a new flight schedule.
We are celebrating the opening of another gateway through which people can
travel, businesses can thrive, investors can explore opportunities, tourists
can discover our region, and communities can strengthen their links with the
wider East African market and beyond. I commend the Jambo Jet team for this
important investment in connectivity.”
The Nairobi-Entebbe route is expected to support increased
movement between the two countries across business, tourism, trade and visiting
friends and family. For Ugandan travellers, the service provides direct access
to Nairobi and onward connections into Jamobjet’s Kenyan network, while Kenyan
travellers gain a convenient direct link to Uganda.
Jambojet will work with travel agents, corporate customers,
tourism organisations and other partners in both markets to develop the route
and identify opportunities for further regional connectivity.
The Entebbe launch comes during a strong year for Jambojet.
The airline grew its active fleet to 11 aircraft in April 2026, welcomed its 10
millionth passenger in June 2026, and recorded an On-Time Performance of 86.45%
in July 2026. By July 2026, Jambojet held an estimated 57% share of Kenya's
domestic aviation market.
