Jamaica facing nationwide power outage

Jamaica is experiencing an island-wide power blackout, Energy Minister Daryl Vaz ​said on Friday evening in ​a post on social media, ⁠without providing a reason ​for the outage.

National energy supplier, Jamaica ​Public Service Company (JPS), confirmed the outage affected the entire island and said ​it was investigating the ​causes of the blackout.

A company spokesperson told ‌Reuters ⁠that JPS was taking steps to restore electricity, with reports indicating power had already returned ​to ​some parts ⁠of the island.

In his social media post, ​Vaz said power would ​be ⁠restored across the island nation by the end of the ⁠night, ​and confirmed that "some places ​have already started receiving power."
