After months of political silence following the death of his longtime political mentor Raila Odinga, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Homa Bay County Secretary Silas Jakakimba has resurfaced with a renewed political message ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Jakakimba, who worked closely with Odinga for nearly 18 years, is now calling for unity within the Luo community and a shift towards development-focused politics centered on economic empowerment and practical leadership.

Speaking during a series of grassroots engagements in Suba North Constituency, Jakakimba said the region must move beyond political divisions and focus on improving livelihoods through strategic development initiatives.

He described the period following Odinga’s death as the end of one political era and the beginning of another that requires visionary leadership capable of addressing the economic challenges facing residents.

“We must now focus on empowering our people through development, unity, and opportunities that directly improve lives,” Jakakimba said during the engagements.

The UDA County Secretary is positioning himself as a contender for the Suba North parliamentary seat in 2027, with a campaign agenda focused on fishing, agriculture, education, infrastructure, and investment in the blue economy.

According to Jakakimba, Suba North has significant untapped economic potential that can only be unlocked through partnerships with investors, development agencies, and government institutions.

He also urged Luo leaders to embrace political tolerance and cohesion ahead of the next election cycle, warning that internal wrangles could weaken the region’s bargaining power and slow economic progress.

Political observers say Jakakimba’s renewed public appearances signal the early stages of an intensified campaign strategy as political realignments begin to emerge across the larger Nyanza region.

His growing visibility is expected to generate fresh political debate in Homa Bay County, particularly given his long association with Odinga and his current leadership role within the ruling UDA.

As the 2027 political landscape gradually takes shape, Jakakimba appears keen on presenting himself as a bridge between the legacy of Luo opposition politics and a new era anchored on economic transformation and development-driven leadership.
