'It wasn't a robbery', Moja Expressway denies viral incident on Nairobi Expressway

The image, which shows multiple individuals gathered between vehicles on the highway lanes, sparked widespread public alarm and intense political commentary online. 

Social media posts alleged that a gang of thugs was targeting motorists in broad daylight, drawing anxious comparisons to worsening security situations. 

However, an official joint investigation by Citizen TV has revealed that the incident was entirely non-criminal.

Moja Expressway Company, the private entity that operates the toll road, clarified that the event was merely a brief logistics stop rather than a security breach. 

According to their tracking and traffic monitoring data, the two vehicles captured in the scene belonged to a delegation of politicians leaving a nearby function. 

Upon reaching that section of the expressway, the convoy briefly pulled over to allow the occupants to swap vehicles before continuing their journey.

Security officials have firmly corroborated this sequence of events. Central Police Station OCPD Patrick Gogo launched immediate searches across multiple stations to locate any potential victims, while Nairobi Regional DCI boss Daniel Kandie spearheaded a parallel probe.

 All police database searches for a matching robbery complaint proved completely futile, confirming that no such crime took place.

Further, a registration verification through the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) portal successfully traced one of the motorists whose vehicle was present in the background of the image. 

When Citizen TV contacted him, the car owner explicitly confirmed they had simply driven past the scene.

The motorist noted seeing what appeared to be a minor commotion and a traffic obstruction caused by the parked convoy, but verified that absolutely no robbery was taking place.

Nairobi Region police command is now urging members of the public to exercise caution when sharing unverified images online to avoid causing unnecessary panic or spreading disinformation regarding public safety on key national infrastructure.

They, however, insist that those with credible information about the incident or any victim, to report to any of the police stations within the Nairobi command for action.
