Speaking to Citizen Digital, Injera praised the team’s determination and progress, saying they have a strong chance of earning promotion to the top tier if they maintain the same momentum at HSBC Sevens 2.
“The team has developed well, as seen in their performances in Mauritius and at the Safari Sevens. You could see a squad hungry for success, with strong teamwork among the players and the technical bench. I believe they are heading in the right direction,” said Injera.
The former Shujaa captain also highlighted the blend of youth and experience in the squad, noting that it has created healthy competition and strengthened the team.
“The young players are willing to learn from the experienced ones, which is good for the team. It creates the healthy competition needed for a team to succeed,” he added.
Turning to the development of rugby in Kenya, Injera expressed concern over the widening gap between the top three teams and the rest of the clubs. He urged the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) to address the imbalance to promote greater competition across the domestic league.
“The gap is not good for the game. Having two or three teams dominate a competition is unhealthy because every top player wants to play for a big team, even if they end up on the bench. This leaves other teams struggling because they keep losing their best players to the bigger clubs,” said Injera.
