Laikipia County NEMA director Fanuel Msango has issued a warning to impostors masquerading as the agency’s officials and soliciting for bribes from residents found with plastic bags.

Speaking to the press on Thursday in Nanyuki, Msango told residents to report suspicious characters who are harassing locals and reassured residents that NEMA officials have badges for identification purposes.

The ban took effect on Monday  and NEMA has urged the general public to drop off their plastic bags stock at Tuskys, Uchumi and Nakumatt supermarkets.

NEMA also indicated it had made arrangements with retail outlets across the country for the public to drop off their plastic bags.
