Impala Saracens head Coach Oscar Osir says his team
has come of age to win the Enterprise Cup as they prepare to face KCB RFC in
the semi-finals this weekend.
Impala have reached the final in each of the last two
seasons but have lost on both occasions to Homeboyz RFC and Kabras Sugar in
2018 and 2019 respectively.
But Osir has a good feeling his charges have amassed
enough championship experience to finally go all the way.
“When you look at the last three games we’ve played I
think we’re on for something because when it comes to knock out stages or cup
games Impala is always up to something,” said Osir.
“If we’re able to stop KCB from building their
momentum our target to win the cup will be on track since we want a silverware
this season and I think that can be only be answered this weekend, because we
cannot talk much about the cup when we haven’t played the semi-final,” added
Osir.
The tacticians said they will work on their set pieces
and defense knowing about KCB’s attacking might and vowed to improve on their
lineout, kicking and scrummage.
“We’ve no choice but to get our set pieces right, it’s
not a secret that Impala likes to throw the ball a bit but we’ve to get that
possession to move the ball around and get set pieces,” observed Osir.
“In my view KCB is one of the best teams in the
country when it comes to set piece play especially the line out is an area
we’ve to look at when we face them,” added Osir.
He added; “KCB attack trail is high and their pace
means we not only have to work on the set pieces but also on our defense and
with their body power we’ve to also work on our scrimmage skills.”
In another semis match defending champions Kabras
Sugar will welcome 2018 champions Homeboyz RFC at the ASK Showground, Kakamega.
The tournament was not played in 2020 and 2021 due to
the Covid 19 pandemic.
