Illicit brew crackdown leads to recovery of 610 litres in Meru

The operation, which took place in Irindie Village, targeted three homesteads suspected to be involved in the production of illicit brew.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), 600 litres of an illicit brew known locally as "Muna" and 10 litres of chang'aa were recovered.
The operation comes as the NPS continues to conduct nationwide multi-agency operations targeting illicit brewing and related activities, in an effort to combat illegal production, distribution and consumption.
Since December 2025, more than 2.8 million litres of illicit alcohol have been seized, and More than 900 to 970 suspects have been arrested nationwide, including manufacturers, distributors, and retailers.
