Praxedes Tororey, the head of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) legal team, has retired becoming the first official of the besieged Commission to leave office following nullified presidential poll.

The top official is one the several personnel that the National Super Alliance presidential leader, Raila Odinga, demanded leaves the commission before he can agree to participate in the fresh presidential poll, now set to be held on October 26.

IEBC’s chief executive officer, Ezra Chiloba, is also among the top officials that Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka want hounded out of office. The others are: Betty Nyambuto and Marjan Hussein Marjan – Chiloba’s deputies, sideny Namulungu and Silas Rotich.

On Tuesday this week, IEBC Chairman, Wafula Chebukati, ordered Chiloba to suspend ICT Director, James Muhati, ICT Coordinator Paul Mugo and ICT officer Boniface Wamae for what he termed as failure short of assisting the commission to successfully discharge its mandate.

In the final full judgment released by the Supreme Court on Wednesday, September 20, Chief Justice David Maraga ruled that there was systemic institutional problem that contributed to the IEBC’s failure to transmit presidential poll results according to the law, hence the nullification of the presidential election.

However, the Supreme Court fell short of finding any specific individual culpable for any of the illegalities and technicalities committed during the electronic transmission of the presidential election results.
