Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary and Party of National Unity (PNU) leader Peter Munya has ruled out any possibility of joining the current government, declaring that his focus is squarely on recapturing the Meru governor seat in the upcoming general elections.

Munya, who spoke on Wednesday during a party event, clarified that he has no intention of accepting any government appointment, stating that his only political ambition is to return to the county leadership.

He allayed concerns about President William Ruto offering him a job, noting that he had not been approached by anyone, and if approached, he would still turn it down.

“For avoidance of doubt, I am focusing on running for the Meru governor seat in the coming elections. I want to make it very clear that I am not looking for any other job; the job I am only looking for is the Governor of Meru,” Munya stated.

“I don’t have the time or luxury to serve in any other position. I have not been offered any other job by anyone, and even if I am offered, I will not accept.”

The party chief also emphasised that his outfit remains committed to national unity and will continue to champion its founding values, adding that the faction is preparing to field candidates across the board in the 2027 General Election.

Munya indicated that even though PNU will be open to working with like-minded parties, the decision on whether to support a joint presidential candidate or front their own will depend on shared aspirations.

“As PNU, our foundational values are that Kenya is one country and one nation. Anything that goes against that, PNU is always against. We intend to field candidates for each and every elective seat," he said.

“We will be working with other parties that share in our aspirations to either field a joint candidate or field a candidate on our own."

The former CS’s statement comes amid growing speculation about political realignments ahead of the next general election.
