The 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results were released on Monday, with  1.2 million students who sat their KCPE exams this year, from 28,213 examinations across the country, expected to receive their results.

Those who wish to receive their results via text message can do so by sending their Index number, followed by the initials ‘KCPE’ to 20076.

According to Education CS George Magoha, headteachers will be required to download the online results slips for candidates in their schools and authenticate the same before releasing the results to parents and guardians. 

A total of 1,214,031 candidates who took the exam in 28,313 locations across the country will receive their results on Monday and will thus be eligible for secondary school admission.

There were 610,384 boys (50.28%) and 603,647 girls (49.72%) among the candidates. In the 2020 KCPE, 1,179,192 candidates sat the examination. The candidature increased by 34,839 (2.95%) in 2021 when compared to 2020. Male and female candidates increased by 19,934 (3.27%) and 14,905 (2.47%) respectively.

Mombasa, Meru, Isiolo, Tharaka Nithi, Nairobi, Uasin Gishu, Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega, Vihiga, Kisumu, and Siaya all had more female candidates than male candidates in the KCPE exam in 2021. Twenty (20) counties, including the 12 mentioned above, registered more female candidates than male candidates in 2020.

The number of candidates who failed the KCPE examination decreased from 12,424 (1.04%) in 2020 to 11,523 (0.94%) in 2021.
