Harambee Starlets’ impressive win over India over the weekend can be attributed to key tactical adjustments by head coach Beldine Odemba, which secured them a place in the final against Australia, set for Wednesday.
Speaking after
the match, the Kenyan tactician revealed that their game plan was centered on
limiting India’s time and space in midfield.
“We watched
clips of their matches and identified their strength in carrying the ball
through the middle. The girls executed the instructions very well,” she said.
That control of
the midfield proved decisive, allowing the Starlets to create several transitional
opportunities. One such moment came almost immediately, leading to the opening
goal within the first ninety seconds of the match.
Forward Valerie
Nekesa has expressed confidence ahead of the final against Australia, insisting
the team is ready for the challenge.
“As players, we
are ready to take our chances against Australia. We are just as hardworking as
they are, and we believe we have something to bring into this game,” she said.
Harambee
Starlets will face Australia on Wednesday at Nyayo National Stadium in the
final, while Malawi and India will battle it out for third place.
