Homicide detectives on Wednesday exhumed the body of a man who was buried in Bondo, Siaya County, without undergoing a post-mortem examination, following a court order authorising the recovery of his remains for forensic examination.

The exhumation was conducted at the deceased’s family land in Maranda village, Bondo Sub-County, by homicide detectives and the Regional Criminal Investigations Officer (RCIO).

The operation followed an order issued by the Bondo Magistrate’s Court on May 11, 2026, in a case involving the Republic versus James Ageng’a, Meshack Ageng’a and others. The order authorised the immediate exhumation of the late James Omollo Ageng’a.

According to investigators and court documents, Ageng’a was buried before a post-mortem examination could be conducted to establish the cause of his death.

The circumstances surrounding his death subsequently raised suspicion, prompting investigators to seek the court’s intervention to have his remains exhumed for forensic examination.

The operation was led by Director of the Homicide Investigations Bureau Martin Nguguto and the Chief Government Pathologist, with forensic experts tasked with recovering specimens for further analysis.

A comprehensive post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted following the exhumation, with samples collected for toxicology, DNA profiling and histological analysis.

The Government Chemist also participated in the exercise and was expected to collect samples for specialised toxicological and histological analysis.

After the exercise at the gravesite, the remains are expected to be transferred to the Bondo Sub-County Hospital Mortuary or another facility designated by the Chief Government Pathologist, where the forensic examination will be completed.

The findings of the post-mortem are expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Ageng’a’s death and assist investigators in their ongoing criminal investigations.
