Homecoming beckons as Victor Omune nears Mathare United return

Former AFC Leopards captain Victor Omune is on the verge of completing an emotional return to Mathare United, with the veteran striker poised to join the Slum Boys on a free transfer ahead of the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season.

Omune has already linked up with Mathare United at their pre-season training camp in Kericho, with the move expected to be finalized in the closing stages.

The experienced talisman became a free agent in June after ending a four-year spell with AFC Leopards.

The transfer carries special significance for the experienced forward, who began his football journey within the Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) structure from the under-10 to under-16 levels.

A move to Mathare United would therefore represent a full-circle moment in his career, bringing him back to the environment where his development first took shape.

The towering striker arrives with a wealth of top-flight experience and a reputation as one of the FKF Premier League’s most reliable attacking performers.

During his time at AFC Leopards, he consistently finished among the club’s leading scorers and earned the club’s 2023/24 MVP and Players’ Player of the Year awards.

His recent numbers underline the value he could bring to Mathare’s attack. In the 2024/25 season, Omune scored five goals, created seven chances, produced seven key passes, and registered 16 shots on target, the highest tally in the Leopards squad.

The previous campaign was even more productive, with eight goals and three assists in 29 appearances.

Omune’s career has also included spells at KCB, Nairobi Stima, Muhoroni Youth, and Kariobangi Sharks, while he has earned five caps for Harambee Stars since making his debut against Iran in March 2023.

For Mathare United, the signing would add leadership, proven goal-scoring quality, and a player who understands the club’s culture from its grassroots foundations.
