Homeboyz RFC team manager Newton Githinji has hailed his second-string side which he fielded at the weekend in the Enterprise Cup, as they beat Nondescript 38- 11 to sail to the next round.

Homeboyz showed remarkable resilience despite trailing 8-7 at the break, but a spirited second-half display ensured they remain in the hunt for a season double.

Apart from having an eye on the Enterprise Cup, they are also in the Kenya Cup playoffs where they’ll face off with  Menengai Oilers this weekend.

“We can’t afford to destroy all that we have worked for throughout the season in one match. The half-time break was very important to us because we had to rejuvenate the boys. We had been playing well but it was all about the confidence levels that needed a bit of working on,” Githinji explained.

In the other Enterprise Cup fixture played at the weekend, Kabras Sugar thrashed Stanbic Mwamba 54-10 at the Bull Ring in Kakamega, setting up a mouth-watering clash with the Homeboyz, popularly known as the Deejayz.

“We know that Oilers love a lot of contact in that they don’t run diagonally with the ball, they are very direct when attacking. What we plan to do is work on our kicking game and defensive output. I am sure if we play basic rugby, we will hurt Oilers,” Githinji said, lifting the lid on his team’s weekend game plan. “We will be skillful in this particular game instead of playing hard rugby.”

Githinji however noted that they won’t make major changes to their regular squad and with no injury concerns they will be ready for the game.
